Your Toubkal 2 Day Trek will commence in the small village of Imlil. This tranquil village is situated deep in the High Atlas Mountains at an elevation of 1,740 m. It’s the main entry point for the majority of treks in the area, notably the popular Toubkal trek.
You’ll be greeted by the cool mountain air and green fields and rocky hills around you. The air is pure, and the sky is frequently bright and blue. Imlil is a calm town because it is crowded with life. You will encounter nice and simple locals who are just so friendly, always smiling and welcoming you.
Your 2 Day Mount Toubkal Trek starts early morning from your hotel in Marrakech. You will be driving south to the High Atlas Mountains to go to the village of Imlil (1,740 meters). This quiet mountain village is where you start your trek. Upon arrival, meet your local guide and mule team to assist in transporting your luggage.
The hike begins by passage through genuine Berber villages with quite simple houses and local farms. As you continue you will pass beautiful apple fields and traverse small mountain paths. One of the unique stops of this day is Sidi Chamharouch shrine, a beautiful spiritual resting place by a fast-flowing stream.
After a brief rest, you will ascend further uphill and arrive at the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m/ 10,188ft). Here, you can relax, have dinner and stay overnight in the mountain hut or you may camp under the stars (depending upon weather and your preference).
Time: 8 to 10 hours total – Distance: 16 kilometers
On the second day, you will rise very early, at approximately 5:00 am, to make your ascent towards the summit of Mount Toubkal. You will climb in the dark with a headlamp lighting the path, gradually ascending the mountain. When you get up there, the first light of dawn shall be here.
Next, you’ll be at the top of Mount Toubkal, 4,167 meters, the highest peak in North Africa. The views are incredible from up here. On a clear day you can see the jagged peaks of the High Atlas Mountains, the broad tundra of the Anti-Atlas and even the rim of the Sahara Desert. After you spend time enjoying the sight and take some incredible beak taking photos, you will hike back down to the refuge for breakfast.
When you are ready you’ll set off on the long climb back down the mountain and back to Imlil through the spectacular mountains. Your driver will be ready and waiting to drive you back to Marrakech where you will be dropped off and conclude your tour.
The feeling of standing on the summit of Mount Toubkal is indescribable. So after hours of ascending steadily, you’ll find yourself all the way up at 4,167 meters above sea level. You are now in the highest peak n North Africa. You’re going to be hundreds of feet above the clouds, looking down on the planet.
From above, you can see the rugged peaks of the High Atlas Mountains extending away to the north. To the south you will see the vast lands of the Anti-Atlas, and the edges of the Sahara desert on a clear day. The air is cold and clean. The silence is deep. The scene is clear in all directions. You may feel proud, at peace, and free at that time.
