This is the first day of your 5 Days Morocco Desert Tour from Tangier. We will pick you up from your accommodation, the airport, or the port in Tangier. Also referred to as “the bride of the north”. The city is located northwest, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean off Cape Spartel. We will begin by exploring the lovely city, Hercules’ grotto, and Cape Spartel. Free time for lunch. Then, we drive inland to Chefchaouen, passing via Tetouan and the Rif Mountains. Stops will be made to enjoy panoramic vistas. Overnight stay at a hotel in Chefchaouen.
After breakfast, feel free to wander through the beautiful alleyways of the blue city Chefchaouen. The 5-day desert tour continues to the ancient Roman ruins Volubilis, which is well preserved because it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has many beautiful mosaics scattered throughout, as well as beautiful ancient pillars and archways. After strolling around the remains, we drive 30 kilometers to Meknes, the Ismaili capital, where we see Bab Al-Mansour, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, the granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Later, we will continue to Midelt, where we will have some free time for lunch. Then we drive across the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and along the Ziz valley, making stops for panoramic vistas.
at the afternoon, we arrive at the Sahara desert of Merzouga. Where you swap to camels and cross the sandy desert, stopping on top of a high dune to watch the sunset. Then proceed to the camp, which combines traditional nomadic tents with the elegance of a hotel. Where you can listen to Berber drum music while dancing around a campfire under the huge open sky of stars. Accommodation is in place.
Wake up early in the morning to enjoy the gorgeous dawn. Free time for breakfast. Then we leave the desert to explore Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a key trading center in the region. With a sizable souk that is active on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After a tour around the Rissani souk, we continue to Erfoud to visit one of the fossilized marble workshops.
Then we travel via Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves to get to the Todra Gorges. The course of the Todra River has cut a spectacular canyon through the mountains. This canyon, with its steep red cliff sides, is suitable for rock climbing. Feel free to roam through the gorges and enjoy the scenery. Free time for lunch at a restaurant. Then we head to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades. Unavoidable pauses include the “monkey fingers” rock sculpture and a vantage point on a mountain overlooking the Dades valley. Dinner and stay at a motel.
After breakfast, we travel to Kalaa Magouna to view the Rose Valley. Every year in May, the residents hold a Rose Festival when they sell their rose products, which range from perfumes, rose water, oil, and cosmetics. We then drive through Skoura’s palm orchards to see the Kasbah of Amredhyle. Then we reach Ouarzazate. We will tour the studios where great movies were shot, as well as the Taourirt Kasbah.
We then leave to visit the famed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. A fortified settlement designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
